I do love a bit of cold revenge. Enjoy!
She was just like he remembered. The carefree way she lived, the way she never wore gloves, and had holes in her snow boots.
They weren’t like his. His parents could afford the finest. The most expensive clothes, prestigious universities, cars, and his allowance was more than some people made in a year. But he was never happy. She made him happy.
He tried to tell his family that once, but they wouldn’t listen. It’s just a phase, they said. It would be an embarrassment. What if people found out?
He caved into their heavy expectations and left for university, leaving her behind.
She had done well for herself. She studied law, got a scholarship and was the Dux. Now she was a solicitor and commanded some of the highest rates in the country.
He asked her to see him.
“No,” she said over the phone.
“Because if I wasn’t good enough for you then, you aren’t good enough for me now.”
She hung up.
He had to respect that. He wasn’t good enough for her. Never was.
